Description
Second City Salvage is offering today this antique towel bar c1910 in its original state. Nickel plating is in good shape, but this piece does have some dings and scratches. It is oversized and the overall width is 32″ x 3″ projection, bar area is 29″. This piece is stamped with the manufacturer’s mark S. Sternau & Co. NY and bears two patent dates of Jul 7 ’08 and Oct 13 ’08. Overall condition is good although there is a hairline fracture that runs the length of the bar and a fracture on one of the ends that probably occurred during removal. The fracture on the bar does not seem to affect the integrity of the piece (you can turn the bar around to hide the fracture) although I would not use it to brace yourself, but it’s good to hang towels on for another 100+ years and would be a grand addition to your vintage bathroom!
