Description
Second City Salvage is thrilled to offer this monumental oak built-in unit that was salvaged from an 1891 residence in Chicago’s Lincoln Park neighborhood recently. It was carefully removed and transported here to the Twin Cities where it currently is sitting in storage. The unit comes apart in two pieces. The lower unit measures 65″w x 20″ d x 31″h and includes 4 drawers and a cabinet, all with original cup pulls and latch. The upper unit is 67″w x 20″d x 59″h including the top crown trim piece. Together it is just a little over 8′ high. The wood is in excellent condition and is all quartersawn oak veneers over flat oak. It’s heavy, sturdy and substantial! The cabinet doors have the original wavy glass and the top cabinets have fixed shelves (interior dimension of these cabinets are 17″w x 36″h x 13″d). The mirrors remain undamaged, however have clouded a bit over time which adds to the character of this gorgeous piece. There is some damage to a drawer on the bottom left as shown in the photo. This is an easy fix and consistent with the age of this piece. Fluted columns with ornate carved capitals flank each side and applied carved details as well on the top sides of the piece give it a nice accent. It is currently dismantled as shown in the photos and is wrapped. You can see it installed in the first picture. A great old piece that is looking for love in a new home… Yours!
