Description
This transom window dates to the late 19th century or early 20th century. The frame is original, varnished and in very nice shape. The panel features a green textured glass border with a blue and green wreath pattern in the center with deep red scrolling and creamy white and gold opalescent pieces. Accent pieces are textured and obscured maize glass and the only clear piece is the beveled glass in the center. It has gone through a full restoration so there are overlays to cover the various cracks and a couple of the missing pieces were replaced (two green ones along the bottom border). We did the best we could to match these – color right on, but the texture of the glass is a bit different. There are also two rebars that were installed on the piece in order to reinforce the glass as it sits in the window although the leading holds strong. There is one very tiny crack on a maize piece that we elected to leave alone as it is insignificant and not noticeable unless scrutinized up close (last photo). This window is a very typical representation of the Aesthetic/Victorian era and was probably original to a farm house over an exterior window as it looks like it was the top sash for a double hung. I was so thrilled to save her and have her restored back to her original glory. She was a hot mess when I got her. Overall measurement is 48″w x 19″h and the frame is 1 3/8″ thick. Measurement for the glass only is 43 1/2″w x 15 1/2″h.
